186 is the answer
WD-186 Review. Kerry Hosznyak
After a bit of a search for a starter airbrush I opted for the WD-186. Searching you tube for various reviews i.e.from “Chris and Alex modelling”
I was looking for an airbrush that would give me the feel of a more expensive model but the price of a basic brush as this would be my first entry into the world of airbrushing. I wanted something that I could get great results right from the start rather than using a cheap airbrush to practice with and getting basic results.
The WD-186 gave me the answer is was looking for. A cheap airbush with the looks and feel of a high end £200 plus model.
To start with the 186 can be fitted with not one but three sizes of needle, a .2 .3 and a .5 making this model very versitle. It can also be fitted with three paint cup sizes and 2cc 5cc and a 13cc or can be used without. The 186 also has fine air adjustment screw at the front and paint flow adjustment at the rear which is ideal for getting different types of paint textures from soft flowing lines to spackling effects which the 186 handles with ease.
This is a well-balanced airbrush with a chrome finish. To back up the airbrush, every conceivable spare part can be ordered from Bartsharp, from needles to the Teflon needle guides, o rings, paint cups. Everything that can be taken apart on the brush can be replaced and ordered form Bartsharp. Again the spares are a fraction of the cost of the more expensive models. The airbrush can be easily stripped down for cleaning and maintenance as the kit comes with a complete breakdown and list of spares. I actually opted for the WD- 186 R which is a kit consisting of WD-186 dual action, gravity fed with fully interchangeable paint cups:2cc, 5cc and 13cc. The airbrush comes set up with a 0.3mm needle and nozzle .Also comes with spare 0.2mm and 0.5mm needles 0.3mm and 0.5mm nozzles and nozzle caps. Quick release coupler x 1 1.8m braided hose Mini airline filter x 1 all encased in its own Presentation box
The results you can expect from the brush are from very fine line to blocking in big areas of colour with ease. Although the correct paint reduction is key to producing the best results also air pressure used. The best results I have found are from using a 2 to 1 reducer to paint mixture at between 30 to 40 psi. but this is down to personal choice. Practice makes perfect.
When I first bought my brush I found I was going through needles, because of bending the needle tips, at the rate of one a week haha, being rather heavy handed. A quick visit to Bartsharps web site and replacements were back with me in a couple of days. A great service from the team at Bartsharp namely Tim and Alison. They are a very friendly team who are more than willing to help with ideas and advice more than you get from the other top manufacturers who just want to peddle their merchandise.
I have several projects on the go which I am using my WD-186 for. When completed I will post pictures on bartsharps site. So you can view first hand at the results that can be achieved.
A great thanks to the team at Bartsharp.
